Anyone know if Market Hall in Gdansk has closed? RS guidebook and update don’t comment but it appears the Market has closed. Are we correct?
Thanks.
It appears that this place is undergoing renovations with an eye to reopening as a food hall sometime in 2026.
We visited last summer and saw little to recommend it from a market perspective, though the architecture is interesting. There's so much to do in Gdańsk that I'd recommend doing instead.
In July, our guide told us it was being renovated as a food hall but that there was no estimated completion date.
Just as we thought. Guide book should be updated .Thanks.
You're not missing much. It resembled a relic from the Soviet Union with stalls selling cheap clothing and other goods along with fresh produce, it offered very little for tourists.
I'm not sure if its renovation as a food hall is a welcome move as the market appeared to cater quite well to the locals who will now have to venture elsewhere for their shopping. I hope the authorities in Gdansk aren't making the error of catering too much for tourists at the expense of locals who are at risk of being driven out of the city centre.
KC makes a good point, but city center real estate becoming too expensive for middle class folks is a sign of a vibrant, growing city, whether one likes the fact or not. Poland generally is a great, growing place that will get more and more expensive in the future.
