Hard time getting direct flights Krakow-Prague

I couldn’t find any info on direct flights from Krakow to Prague. It seems like it would save time and be cheaper to ride up to Warsaw and fly to Prague from there. It’s in May 2018, so idk if it’s just too far in advance right now, but it seems like all the direct, cheaper flights to Prague are all leaving from Warsaw. Is there some reason for this? Is Krakow not as big of a hub as Warsaw?

I guess I could take a train up to Warsaw then take a plane from there, but I’ve heard that train schedules for Poland don’t usually run on schedule. Idk if this is true, but just wanted to opinions. And is the train station in Warsaw close to the airport?

Thank you all in advance!

I’m sorry. I should have put more info on the original post. It would be for 15.05.2018 (Tuesday) late in the day or 16.05.2018 (Wednesday) early in the day.

Warsaw is a hub for LOT, also as the capital it's more readily serviced. A couple of years ago I flew to Krakow, then took the train to Warsaw (spent 4 days, it's easily worth at least 2 days) and flew on LOT direct to Prague for about $100 US. I also took the train to Gdansk and must say my 2 experiences on Polish trains were excellent--easily booked tickets from home, they were quite cheap, trains were on time and very clean--so don't be deterred by the prospect of taking the train, and maybe add a bit of time in Warsaw if so inclined.

As for proximity of Warsaw's airport and Centralna train station, my taxi ride to the airport from old town only took about 15 minutes, so you aren't looking at an epic effort to get from one to the other.

Kraków airport serves around 5 million passengers a year while both Warsaw airports (WAW and WMI) serve over 16 million so yes, Kraków is not as big a hub as Warsaw.

The train station in Warsaw (Zachodnia Station is the closest) is 20 minutes from Chopin Airport by S2, S3 and KM trains. I do not see any flights to Prague from Modlin Airport. I'm not sure where you have heard that Polish trains do not run to schedule. Trains are the most reliable means of transport in Poland. The longest delay I experienced on long distance routes was about 20-30 minutes and that was a couple of years ago; local trains in Warsaw run like clockwork.

Next year, there will be a convenient, direct daytime train departing from Krakow to Prague at 10:45 a.m. See schedules for Dec. 10 or later.

P.S. departure time in the opposite direction is 10:25 from Prague.

@ sati.... My experience with trains in Poland...punctual, very affordable. There is now the night train connecting Krakow with Vienna (Wien Hbf and one to Warsaw.

That’s great about the new train time that will be direct to Prague. I would really rather fly, seeing as how flying would be 1 hour compared to a train’s 7.5 hours. I just don’t get why there are absolutely no direct flights that I can find from Krakow to Prague for either date that I’m looking for (15.05.2017 late or 16.05.2017 early). I’m just saying it looks like, even though I don’t have time to visit Warsaw for this trip, it would save me a ton of time to take the train up to Warsaw from Krakow (2 hrs) to fly to Prague from there (1 hr), rather than taking an indirect plane route from Krakow (5 hours is the shortest trip time that I see).

There are direct 1 hour 5 min flights via RyanAir - but on Mondays and Fridays only. If you are really interested, then try to reorient your schedule so that you can take advantage of it.

Yes, the limited public transport options on this route are a known issue and you will have to go to Warsaw if you want to fly on that date.
