Going to Poland next week

plan is to drive from Frankfort to Wroclaw for a few nights then on to Kracow. I have tour guide set up for Kracow, someone I know from another tour. Any suggestions as to what I "can't miss" between Wroclaw and Kracow. We will be doing Auschwitz at some point. We like to try new foods, museums and architecture. Don't mind walking. Thought about Czestochowa to see the black Madonna but haven't checked mileage yet. Any suggestions will be appreciated. What foods not to miss, what drinks not to miss.
I will admit I like to try new foods and drinks. I try to find cooking classes in the cities I visit..

Hi Liz!

Between Wrocław and Krakow is the Silesia region, a land rich in history and culture and hardly known to outside tourists. Besides Częstochowa, you can also visit:

Nikiszowiec - historic coal miners' settlement
Trail of the Eagle's Nests Castles - dozens of picturesque castles in various states of preservation
Błędów Desert - Central Europe's largest desert aka Polish Sahara
Pszczyna - perfectly preserved baroque town with von Pless Chateau
Katowice - main city of the region, used to be heavily industrialized but starting to gentrify

Czestochowa. The Shrine of the Black Madonna is a pilgrimage site so, often crowded and full of worshippers. So yes, if you want to see a touchstone of Polish history and culture, but no if you have no interest in the religious aspects or dont want to wait in line for a short viewing..
