I am taking the tour next year and I am looking to find out more about my great-grandparents that lived in Poland. I was hoping to use a service. Has anyone had any experience with using a company to learn more about our Polish Heritage?
a long reply I will send a PM.
I worked with Michal at "Your Roots in Poland" for my recently acquired Polish citizenship. I already had all of the documentation and family histories as my grandparents left after the war, so a slightly different situation. However, I found working with him professional and straightforward. They do basic genealogy, too, I believe. Good luck in your search.
cara47, would you mind sharing how much it cost you in time and money for that citizenship?
Hi, I used Polish Origins. Just google it online. They were excellent to work with. The online form asks you to provide your specific genealogy request, example, "Looking for the village where my great grandparents [name] lived in Poland". In my case, I was searching for the graves of 3 family members whose whereabouts prior to death were unknown so I wasn't sure where to even write to ask about the graves. They did find the grave locations for me.
They ask you to upload documents that can help with the search. In my case, I had to provide documents proving that I was a relation of the people I was asking about. In Poland, there are some very stringent privacy laws and you may not get certain information unless you are a DIRECT descendent. In my case, I was looking for a great uncle and his children, so I wasn't considered a direct descendent and couldn't get some information.
I will not quote my exact fee because it depends on the amount of work that you are asking them to do, but it was over $500. It took them about 4-6 weeks to get the information and they sent me a very detailed 17 page report. I would use them again. They also provide ancestral tours. I don't need this, as I'm comfortable traveling in Poland on my own and I've already been to my family's ancestral village several times.
