I have been watching a fantastic cooking show on my local PBS station. She covers various regions of Poland, and at least half the show is footage of stunning scenery of the particular region. She typically interviews local chefs who have cooked dishes of the region for her. Today she is covering an area east of Gdansk and I believe next week, at least in twin cities of MN, is going to be Gdansk.
I really enjoy that show. It makes me want to go to Poland. Since my ethnic background on Mom's side is Germanic, much of the food is somewhat familiar - sausage, potatoes, kraut, beer.
Our PBS also shows travel stuff from Slovakia. Same deal - great scenery, great food in the Eastern European cousine sphere.
Paul, we really liked Poland. To make it even better, it was such an inexpensive trip. Accommodations, trains and food and attractions, all super reasonable.
Thanks for sharing! Here one can see short snippets from each episode https://www.flavorofpoland.com/episodes
I couldn't find any full episodes unfortunately :(
"sausage, potatoes, kraut, beer" yes Polish cuisine has those Central European staples but is so much more too, drawing from various influences Old Slavic, Jewish, Scandinavian, Turkish, and even Italian (via the Sforzas of Milan) cuisines.
On the Italian (Sforza) influence on Polish Cuisine:

Thanks for the info.! Looks like a great show. I found some recipes that look wonderful.

Janis, this morning they did salmon pierogi!
Jules m: Wow, Salmon Pierogi! We have the delicious wild Sockeye in WA St now. Yum!
I was able to access the full videos through my local PBS station website: https://www.pbs.org/show/flavor-poland/
Not sure if this will work for everyone. I don't have a paid subscription with PBS, just googled it.
Thanks, Kathy. I also discovered I could get it thru the PBS app on my ROKU. I do have PBS passport, but the app does work without passport. I used the search function to find the show. It looks like the show is available to everyone. The first episode I believe was Krakow and it doesn’t look like that is up, but the rest are. To me, based on what PBS has done with some other shows, Flavors of Poland may not be available indefinitely.
Thanks for suggesting this series! My husband and I have been really enjoying these shows. What a beautiful country! Poland wasn’t on my radar until now.
