We are looking for a small boutique hotel or quaint hotel in or close to the medical d town in Gdańsk.
My husband found Fama Residence Old Town.
Any thoughts?
I stayed at the Fama Residence Old Town in May 2023. I liked it, especially for the price. I would describe it as a standard Rick Steves kind of place. It's a local hotel, and the location is great, right beside the Golden Gate and a 7-minute walk to the waterfront (per Google Maps). The rooms and ensuite bathrooms are clean and comfortable but "no frills." The hotel was quiet. There was someone at the desk 24 hours, which was nice. The hotel offers a very nice breakfast spread in the morning in the adjacent restaurant. It's certainly not a place that makes you want to hang out in the room instead of going sightseeing, but it's a perfectly comfortable place to come back to at night to sleep.
"Small boutique hotel or quaint hotel?" I'm not sure I would use those terms. I might veer more toward functional local hotel at a good price. Check prices, but for me it was substantially cheaper to book through the hotel's website than through a third party like Booking.com.
You don't say when you intend to visit. The hotel looks fine - I would just point out that during busier periods, you will walk outside into the touristic crush, and many of the restaurants close by may also be tourist-centric.
I stayed recently at Hotel Admiral, which is closer to the water, on a quiet side street. Rick Steves tours stay there. Quite comfortable, and extensive breakfast buffet available.
