How difficult a trip is this? Are the roads good? Also thinking about driving on from Bratislava to Passau.

The roads are good, the scenery is superb. The same from Bratislava to Passau.

I don't know about the roads—but assuming that you are driving a rental car, drop fees are likely to be exorbitant (maybe high hundreds of dollars).
