Driver for Plock from Warsaw

Hello,

We have been to Poland three times in the last eight years and are venturing out into the countryside in May 2023 to try to see the towns where some grandparents lived. I've done this for four of our already, and now we are looking into the hardest-to-find grandparent. I've sort of given up looking for ancestors since his name was Stanislaus Nowakowski which is like John Smith in the USA. I know he lived in Bielsk and said on his naturalization that he was from Plock. So, we would like to travel there.

Can anyone recommend a driver? We really are just expecting to see the highlights and probably not stop at the church.

We used Rick Steve's famous Andrew Duram in Krakow in 2016, and he made a gallant effort to find relatives in Zawoja, without any true success. I found cousins in Poland for three of our ancestors, so we know it can happen.

If you're driving to Płock, you might as well go another 15 km and see Bielsk. Many people who come from small towns use the name of a large nearby city to indicate where they are from. For example, I live in a suburb but when I'm in Europe I usually tell people that I'm from Chicago.

The Polish Genealogical Society of America has a list of guides and researchers in Poland: https://pgsa.org/polish-researchers-guides. Most list the area/region where they will travel. Send an email to ask what fee they would charge for where you want to go and what you want to do.
