Hi,
My wife and I are traveling to Poland for our first time this December. We will have 12 days and will be flying into Gdansk and out of Krakow. We are thinking of spending about four days each in Gdansk, Warsaw and Krakow and traveling by train between each of those cities. We are interested in historical sites, museums, Christmas markets and staying in less touristy areas.
Could you please share your thoughts on this possible itinerary, how and where to best spend our time, other places to see, etc?
Thanks!
Those 3 cities will keep you very busy. Do you have Rick’s Poland Guide? Between his book, reading trip reports, reading the itinerary for his Poland tour, and the internet, I had no trouble putting together a 3 week trip. Read over some previous trip reports to get some ideas.
Just an FYI, we travelled by train between these cities and purchased our tickets when we arrived. We were able to buy all connections at one station. Go for first class, not much more and a very lovely ride.
Yes good start, but next is to invest in a good guidebook for Poland like DK Eyewitness or Lonely Planet, that way you can also get a better understanding of what you want to see as "historical sites, museums etc" is frankly quite vague. Can't expect us to design your own itinerary for you lol! Meet us halfway with a first draft.
Thank you both for your info and suggestions!
