Day trips- Wroclaw

Hello all. Has anyone done day trips out of Wroclow, using public transport or paid group tours? We are there for 5 nights in Oct. 2023. Thanks for any help.

With a train from Wroclaw I'd suggest the charming baroque town of Świdnica, I think it's 1 hr south via Wrocław Główny station by train. In addition to its well preserved old town, Świdnica's most significant landmark is the Church of Peace, a 400 year old wooden Protestant church that was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Church of Peace is the largest timber-framed religious building in Europe.

You can also try Legnica (this one I've not personally been), 45 min west of Wroclaw by train. The old town is also well preserved with baroque and neoclassical architecture. I recall there was also a ducal palace for Silesian Piasts, and St. Peter and Paul Cathedral, which is an prime example of Polish Gothic architecture. About 10 km from the town centre is the site of the famous battle of Legnica in 1241, where a multi-national European force faced off against the Mongol Empire. Although the Mongols won the battle, their invasion into the heartland Europe was halted, I believe there is an onsite museum.

The fourth post in my Trip Report mentions both towns with a Church of Peace, but I doubt two can be done in one day by bus. Wroclaw is quite a rich travel destination, even without a daytrip.

Our driver mentioned a rural fragment of a Nazi camp or prison that was on the way, but we did not ask him to stop there. Return highway traffic delayed us almost an hour. The here much-denigrated Viator reseller did a good job for us in this case. They offered a variety of private and group tours from Wroclaw.

Too funny, I had just PM'd Carlos to ask this same question earlier this week, as I had bookmarked his great trip report.
The good man answered quickly, just as he did here, THANKS again Carlos.

I think I'm going to take the train to Legnica, what I've seen online it looks like a nice spot for a wander. I'm going solo, so no one to amuse but myself.

I tried to download the Wroclaw Gnome app, but it isn't available in USA, so it will have to wait. An Irish Travel (Click and Go) podcast does an episode on Wroclaw; they couldn't be more positive about the city and Poland overall. They recommended the gnome app. Podcast was done pre-covid, so prices will be off, but the rest is still relevant.

Tim- Thanks for link.

ANYONE HELP- Confused on the public transportation tickets. For the 72 hour pass, I'm reading that the actual pass is loaded onto the credit card you use in the ticket machine. Is that the case?

Thanks, just a few weeks away.
