Hi, we will taking a RS Best of Poland tour this summer that start in Gdansk. We will be landing in Gdansk Lech Walesa airport and plan to take a taxi to the hotel. Does taxi service take credit cards? Or do I need to get to an airport ATM to get PLNs?
I know in some countries; taxis take only cash. Anyone have any experience in Poland on this?
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
All businesses in Poland are required by law to take cashless payments but keep in mind that that doesn't necessarily mean that all of them have card terminals. For about 10 years Poland has had its own system called BLIK which is very popular and doesn't require a terminal to process the payments https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blik#
so some small businesses like taxis choose blik to satisfy the legal requirement and take no cards. Usually not a problem in large cities like Gdańsk, though, where there are many tourists who can't use it because they have no Polish bank account.
Thanks for the advice....
I used Uber from the airport to my hotel - had my cc already in the app. It was fast and easy. I also used Uber in Warsaw and in Krakow.
