We will be driving from Krakow to Slovakia at the end of August. We would like to stop for one night on the way. Cieszyn on the Czech border looks nice. Any suggestions?
This area was known historically until the end of WW@ as Teschen, the political football coveted by Poland and Czechoslovakia in the inter-war years. Prior to WW1 the Austrians controlled it for centuries.
If you have the opportunity , I heartily recommend seeing the place. Teschen is currently , ie since 1945, divided up between the Poles and the Czechs. Check out the differences and similarities on both sides of the border culturally.
In 2019 we stayed at the Mercure on the Polish side for 2 nights and enjoyed the breakfast there the next day. Like Phred we explored the town, visited the old section which has a ruin or a castle which is on one of the Zloty bills. There was an excellent coffee/pastry shop on the square on the Polish side.
I forgot to mention there is a Polish blogger, My wonderlust.pl,, which has a LOT of info on Central Europe. We have used her info a number of times.
Thank you. We leave Saturday.
