I try to travel with a minimalist luggage setup (one 45-liter backpack), so I need to be on the alert for chances to do laundry. All my previous RS tours have been in Italy; the tour guides have all done a fine job of scouting out self-serve laundromats and drop-off laundry services. Is the Central Europe tour similarly dialed in for laundry services?
Things could be very different now, but on our tour in 2018 we actually had to travel by subway to a laundromat in Budapest. Our guide provided us with the information, but it wasn’t as easy/convenient as opportunities we had to do laundry or drop off laundry on our Italy tours.
I do remember that the laundromat was very clean and the woman who worked there was very helpful as we were a bit confused by the washers.
We were on this tour a three or four years back in July.
Where we stayed in Budapest, conveniently, there was a washer and dryer in the hotel. We also did laundry at Lake Bled-- a modest walk away-- as we were continuing to travel for several more weeks.
Hope you have such luck too. The tour was fantastic and our guide Peter (Hungarian native) was awesome!
Happy travels!
When I was in Warsaw in the Spring of 2024, I discovered a Speed Queen 24 location a short walk from the Chopin B&B - it was the cleanest, most hi-tech laundromat I've ever experienced. There are three Speed Queen locations in Krakow, one just across from the train station - and I realize that Krakow is at the beginning of your tour:
There are also Speed Queen locations in central Budapest - search on Google Maps. When I was in Budapest a bit over a year ago I identified a number of laundromats close to my Andrassy corridor hotel, although I didn't need to use one. Perhaps Mr. E will chime in.
Markcw - that is great news about the numerous Speed Queen laundromat locations in Krakow and Budapest. I first encountered a Speed Queen laundromat in Padua during the Village Italy tour - and you're absolutely correct about their cleanliness and functionality. I feel a lot better about the laundry issue now :-D
Depends on which city and which hotel. A Google maps search for "Laundry" generally works. The most common self serve here is Mr Bubbles.
