Breakfast in Stare Miasto

Hello everybody,

I (finally) made it to Warsaw after much delays and general hassle! I haven't had the opportunity to really get a lay of the land yet and was wondering if anybody had any suggestions for a breakfast place. I know all the guidebooks warn of the prices and quality in the tourist area, but I'm just looking for someplace close to find a breakfast a bit more substantial than a croissant. I a staying right off the square in one of the apartment recommended in the RS book. Do any past visitors have any suggestions, or should I just try my luck in the square?

Looking forward to seeing the city for real tomorrow!

I stayed at the Hotel Bristol on Krakowskie Przedmiescie and had my breakfast a couple of times at Green Caffe Nero just across the street, #81--excellent coffee drinks and a good selection of sandwiches, cakes and muffins that were a bit more artisan than Starbucks-type shops. There's plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, but it's self-serve.

Hey Caroline, we are in Warsaw now and had dinner at the chain Zapiecek. They showed breakfast on their menu. They have 6 locations and one is in old town. In fact, we are eating dinner at one tonight. It is in Ricks book (page 220). The food was delicious, nice size portion, and traditional. Also, very affordable..

I think Zapiecek also has two locations in Nove Miasto (though one may have a more limited menu). I tried two different Zapiecek locations for pierogi and was satisfued (I'm no expert) and I would imagine they do a decent breakfast. I was staying near Palm Tree Circle, thus near the Blikle bakery, so most days I just picked up one or two paczki (filled donuts) for breakfast.
