I’m staying an extra night so I can visit Auschwitz (I did make a reservation for 10:30am). I’m debating on taking the bus versus hiring a driver. Has anyone taken the bus there? Or the train? The tour guide mentions the bus gets very busy and there might not be a seat. Any suggestions?
Thank you!
Check the train schedule as your date gets closer. Once you arrive at the train station, you still have to get to Auschwitz which is a 20 minute bus ride or a 5 minute taxi ride. Timing is everything. I would leave Krakow no later than 8:45, but that is cutting it close. I like to be early just in case. Right now there is a train that leaves Glowny at 7:52, no transfers. I would take that one.
We used the Jakojade bus and it was easy. Dropped and picked up right at the visitor center.

Jakdojade is the public transit app for Poland, yes? So are you referring to the bus that leaves from the bus station and goes directly to Auschwitz? You found it on Jakdojade?
I went on a packaged tour from Krakow - on a minibus - took 90 minutes to get to Auschwitz. If I were to do it again, I would investigate the train instead.
Here's info on piblic transportation from an earlier post:
...timetables for the bus and regional train from Krakow:

As for trains, there are PKP trains, but also trains operated by a regional line:

Additional information is available on the official Auschwitz site, although you have to dig for it:

Hi Michelle!
Nice to meet you!! Name is Vic and my wife's name is Roh.
We will be on the same RS Tour this coming Jul 2 2024. We're from Chicago as well. I am planning to tour Auschwitz....most likely on the last day. Roh will not join me...too much family history.
A private car runs about $150.00 (cash split between occupants). I've checked with a couple of Rick Steves recommended drivers. RS recommended driver Andrew is on holiday but he has another friend who also speaks English that he recommends.
Markcw (above) mentions the mini-bus (Discovery?) and that runs about $35.00 (I believe this includes entry into the camp). I would surmise there are guaranteed seats on the mini-bus? Perusing other related threads, I believe that you have to take a taxi from the train to the camp...this is mentioned above.
Following this discussion as well !!!
Vic
I took the bus there and back. It’s very easy, leaves from the bus station and takes you directly to Auschwitz’s. If you take the train, you have to take a bus to go the last little bit anyway so I recommend just booking the bus round trip.
Thank you all so much for your good advice! Nice to meet you Vic & Roh!
