Going to Krakow in about 10 days. Want to go to the Auschwitz/Birkenau but have not gotten tix yet. A little panicked today when I read that I should have gotten them already. Is that the case? If so, is there a tour that I should consider that will pick me up at a hotel and provide a good service? Anything you would recommend? Or should I wait until I arrive? Or is it too late?
Larry,
Tickets do indeed sell out in advance; you should go online now and see if you can get tickets during your stay. IF they're available, grab them now, do not wait.
When I was there late July this past summer, we arrived in Krakow, checked online, and no tickets were available for any days while we would be there.
I hired a private driver to take us there well before the ticket office opened. We lined up with others hoping to get tickets when they opened. For us, it worked out.
Read this other thread on Auschwitz for more details.
I emailed my hostel and they arranged a ticket for me on a tour. I think I asked them to arrange it about two weeks before I arrived. Can’t remember the company but I know it was the same place that I meet the bus to go to the Salt Mines. This was in late May last year
I suspect that if you check NOW, you'll be able to get tickets from the official website. Click on the "Next" box on the "Visit for individuals" line.
