Coming friom Vilnius Lithuania would Gdansk or Warsaw be the best route to start at. We have @ 3-4 weeks to tour. Bus or train??

Not sure. (I have been to Gdansk and to Vilnius but on separate trips.) But if I wanted to know, I'd first go to Rome2Rio and see which connection works best. Also check flights. And where would I be going next after either Gdansk or Warsaw? If I were heading south afterward, then starting in Warsaw and going to Gdansk wouldn't make sense.

Trains tend go via Belarus, which is slow and requires a visa. There may be about one direct bus per week to Gdansk (try Flixbus but also check that it doesn't cross Russia). There is more frequent bus service to Warsaw (10 hours).
