We're arriving in Gdansk the day our Rick Steves tour starts. If we take a taxi or a Bolt (Polish equivalent of Uber) from the airport to our hotel do we need cash, e.g zlotsky, or can we use our Visa or American Express? We don't usually exchange money in the airport, waiting until we can find an ATM associated with a bank.
We used Uber last fall - so therefore no money needed. I'm not sure about Bolt.
We downloaded the Bolt app before going to Poland and used it successfully many times on our trip. Like Uber, Bolt gives you the price of the car at the time of booking. No cash needed.
Bolt is not just Poland. It's more popular than Uber in much of Central and Eastern Europe.
But it is run exactly like Uber. Set up the app ahead of time, arrange for one at the airport, and then ride it. All payment is done through the app. Even tipping if you want to tip.
I've used Bolt twice in the last few days in two different cities in the Czech Republic.
We took a taxi from the airport to the hotel and paid by credit card no problem. I never used cash for the entire Poland tour.
I used Bolt constantly during my trip to Gdansk. I didn't need cash at all whilst in Poland which has been my experience over the last few years so I knew I had no need to take any Zloty.
