8 days over Easter - Wroclaw, Krakow, Zakopane

Heading to Poland for a solo trip over the Easter holiday and getting a very wide range of strong opinions re: itinerary on other forums. I have decided to check in here with seasoned and professional travelers.

Currently, I have two options:

  1. Wroclaw (2 nights), Krakow (3 nights), Zakopane area (3 nights)
  2. Krakow (5 nights), Zakopane (3 nights)

I have lodging booked a bit outside of Zakopane very near the Chochołowska Valley. I am hoping the weather will allow me to do some hiking/walking at least in this area. I will not have a car and be relying on public transportation which is the main reason I have chosen to stick with the larger (more touristy) cities. I am aware that much will be closed on Easter Sunday and Monday and have secured lodging and plan to get groceries on Saturday to sustain me whilst restaurants are closed.

I'd love to hear your opinions and alternative suggestions if you have them. Thank you!

My very strong opinion (🤣) is that either works just fine.

What would seem more logical to me depends on where you will be arriving from.

If from the U.S., I would probably opt for Choice 2, simply because you would be arriving with jet lag and Wrocław would be a lot of extra effort for only 1 tired day - and for me, it wouldn’t be worthwhile.

If you are arriving more easily from somewhere in Europe, then you probably would have more use from your arrival day in Wrocław.

Thank you, TravelTexasMom!

Coming from the US so will consider the jet lag. I pushed hard in Portugal last year, and I saw a lot, but I came back pretty tired.

I agree with TexasTravelmom, even though Wroclaw is my favourite city in Poland, I think option 2 will give you a better travel experience.

Regarding hiking, if Zakopane (i.e High Tatras) are still snowed in/unpleasant at that time of year, an alternate could be the next door Silesian Beskid Mountain range, they are lower in elevation and actually more popular with local Poles than the Zakopane area. Even the President of Poland has his Presidential Castle in this area. I suggest the mountain resort town of Wisła as a home base, with good hiking within walking/bus distance that run all the way to Slovakia and Czechia. Very popular all year around with great hotel/resorts.

I last was there in April 2022, it was still quite cold, you can see my photos from my trip at the beginning of my album - https://photos.app.goo.gl/KM3KkkTsLakrsBm48
