3-4 Days in Warsaw

We will briefly be in Warsaw for a few days, and have had very little time to actually research/prepare (tail end of a work trip). Wondering what suggestions people on this forum can give us about what to do, where to eat, where to walk/wander, and any unique experiences/day trips from Warsaw.

Thanks,
Nick

It's been a while for us, but we found this website warsaw in your pocket ** and the downloadable version to be a great guide for what to do and where to go. The long "Royal Way" (the street name changes a few times) is a walkable tour of the core tourist area, with tons of restaurants and ends in the restored Old Town area in the north. You have to go to the Museum of the Warsaw Rising to see how it was restored after the whole city was razed during the war. Also various Holocaust sights and the Museum of Polish Jews. Chopin concerts around town and the Lazienki Park.

A lot depends on your interests, and not all of it WWII related. The town Czestochowa is a significant cultural and religious shrine reachable for day trip.

** In Your Pocket has similar info for many cities in Europe, so its worth knowing about.

Warsaw has many modern museums that are fully English-accessible. Let us know what your interests are and we can provide some specific suggestions. You should also look back through the Poland forum for recent posts. They'll tip you off to the things others especially liked.

POLIN (Jewish museum) and the Warsaw Rising museum are both brilliant. And you could spend about a day (possibly longer) at each one if you have a serious interest in the topic.

Tell us where you're staying to (probably) get some geographically-handy restaurant suggestions. I've found restaurant quality in Warsaw quite good. In addition to Polish food, there are quality options for other cuisines if you want a change.

I also did the Eat Polska food tour when in Warsaw in May. It was great! But too much food -- pace yourself if you do it.

I think the In Your Pocket recommendation above is a good one. Culture Trip has some basic info on Warsaw, too.

If you like opera and would like to see it in an intimate, historic environment, check out the Polish Royal Opera (Polska Opera Króklewska). Its performances are usually at the Royal Theater in Łazienki Park. The theater dates to the 18th century and seats around 200.
