Which one day fjord tour from Bergen?

I recently took advantage of an introductory Providence RI to Bergen rt airfare of $300 (now $241 ) and I'd like to take a one day trip to see a fjord area. If I'm not mistaken, two of the options are (1) Aurlandsfjord and on the narrow Nærøyfjord or (2) The Sognefjord. Any opinions?

Will be leaving either Aug 21 or 22. Is it risky to wait until last day to buy tickets? I'd like to go on the nicer day.

"I'd like to go on the nicer day."

Well, when someone here can tell you which day will be nicer, I would like to ask them for winning lotto numbers..

"Is it risky to wait until last day to buy tickets?"--- probably ( looks like its $291 now)

Mathematics (probability) will tell you that Lotto odds are in the "house's" favor. However, if you accept the science of meteorology, you can improve your odds of deciding which day would be nicer a few days in advance. See:

Of course meteorological science isn't accurate if you are trying to buy a ticket more than two or three days in advance.

I've only done the Aurlandsfjord, and it was breathtaking. I'd recommend the Norway in a Nutshell RT from Bergen, so you get to do the Flam railway as well.

Joe, if someone here could tell me it was unlikely for the cruises to sell out this late in August I'd wait until the last moment, or couple of days, to buy tickets. That's it. But thanks for playing, every website needs Smarmy Forum Guy.

Thanks Klee, considering Aurlandsfjord. Looks beautiful.

My husband and I were on the Rick Steves Best of Scandinavia tour in July 2016. The Norway in a Nutshell tour was not part of our tour itinerary, but it is not to be missed! We took the Sognefjord fjord tour which included the Flåm Railway as a round trip from Bergen. It was fantastic!

Our tour group actually missed our originally scheduled small fjord tour completely due to a major rock slide. I was so disappointed. Seeing a fjord was the biggest reason for taking the trip in the first place. However, the roads were closed and no tours were getting through. We planned on staying a few days after the tour—which was our good fortune. Two days before we were to return home, the rock slide was cleared and we were able to make the round trip from Bergen. So, you not only need to worry about ‘rain’ — but I hear that these rock slides are common! I would book as soon as possible and take your chances on the weather. Don’t book it for your last day in case you need to be flexible on the timing due to flying rocks!

Good luck!

Great advice Debbie. Glad you squeezed your trip in! I think I better make a reservation.
