Ok. Did know viking museum was closed. Son mow tells me the only thing he's interested in is viking . We are going to oslo . What is best place for viking exhibit. Thanks
Are you going anywhere else than Oslo?
All the places ORDtraveler mentions are on Bygdøy peninsula easily reached by ferry.
Outside of Oslo, Midgard Viking Center, Slotsfjells Museum.
The Norsk Folkesmuseum is near the location of the yet-to-open Viking Ship museum in the countryside just outside central Oslo.
You can see the Gol Stave Church here— a wooden church built between 1157 and 1216. When it was built, symbols of Viking mythology were carved into the ceiling and interior walls of the church as Christianity was new to the Norse and they incorporated a lot of their spiritual symbols—- dragons, demons and animals— into the motifs inside the church.
You almost wouldn’t know this was a Christian church from the carvings inside of it.
For a young person, the Viking Planet is very good. Nice virtual reality show. A bit gimmicky, but along the lines of something a young person might enjoy. I would second Norsk Folkesmuseum, Fram, and Kon Tiki (very interesting). Here's the link for Viking Planet: https://www.thevikingplanet.com
