Vik and Nigard in same day?

Hello,

We are staying in Balestrand for two nights and have one full day to see the sights before we continue on the Nutshell tour.

Is it possible to visit the Hopperstad Church in the morning on the ferry then return to Balestrand at noon and then drive to the Nigard Glacier for the afternoon returning back to Balestrand by early evening?

Also, what is the drive to Nigard like? I’m afraid of height and don’t like to drive up high along cliffs or mountain sides. Car ferris are ok. Should I try to hire a driver?

This past September, we visited the Nigard from Hafslo, closer than Balestrand. It took pretty much the whole day, including driving there (and back) and visiting the museum approaching the glacier, plus time at the glacier area. I don’t expect that you’d be able to fit in the glacier in just an afternoon, especially if you spent time seeing or doing anything there.

The drive there, once we passed to the west of Gaupne, followed a rushing river through a narrow valley. The road rose and fell a few times, but there were no cliffs along the road - just very high mountainsides rising above the valley, and about a million waterfalls. It was a slower drive than you might expect. If you had a hired driver, they could potentially go faster and nobody would miss any of the scenery, but again, I doubt the drive to the glacier and back to Balestrand can be done in just an afternoon.
