van camping in W. Norway recommendation

We are going to be van camping in W. Norway at the end of May for either 4 or 5 nights, starting/ending in Balestrand. Have any of you readers done this and if so, do you have any particular campgrounds and/or routings that you recommend? Any favorite sources for more information? We like to hike, bike, kayak, ferry boat riding as activities and do need electric hook up each night.

VisitNorway provides a great page about camping and caravaning in Norway.

I guess you found the scenic routes of Norway already.

Just as info: camping by car and caravaning in Norway means that you need to stay overnight on a dedicated camping and caravaning ground. In opposite to camping / travelling as pedesrian you are not allowed to camp anywhere (Norwegian right to roam).

The website camping.info provides a map with camping grounds, their resources and visitor ratings which allows to scrolling in the map and also booking directly.

Be aware that end of May it can be cold in Norway; especially at night and especially on high altitude (fjells between fjords). Last year it was not easy going at this time - made a car round trip with my mother. Best weather info you will get on Yr.no.

Most ferries are part of public street network, e. g. Vangsnes - Dragsvik - Hella. Just come and line up. The capacities of the ferries will always be enough at your date of travel. The few tourist ferries such as Gudvangen - Kaupanger or Hellesylt - Geiranger are recommended to be prebooked.

By the way: fuel is always cheaper in Norway at the coast and at the fjords than in the inner parts.

Norway is 98% on card payment. Only at very few occasions you will need cash. Camping grounds shall accept 100% cards for all the European campervan guests from Germany, Netherlands and France.

Have a safe and good journey. It would help others if you would post a short experience report after it.
