Use Norway in a Nutshell to get from Oslo to Bergen?

Hello! We will be in Norway in May, and had planned to do the Oslo-Bergen railway trip which is supposed to be spectacular. I thought we would later do a Norway in a Nutshell round-trip once we were in Bergen. But - I 'm thinking we could save money and time if we do the Oslo to Bergen Norway in a Nutshell. Does anyone have any guidance for us on this?

I'd really appreciate any help! Thank you!

Yes, if you want to travel from Oslo to Bergen via railroad, and have the extra half day of time for the Flam Line descent to the fjord and boat-bus leg you only miss part of the Hardangervidda that descends towards Bergen. As much as I enjoy crossing the Hardangervidda, the Handangervidda is spectacular because of is vast sameness.

I think it's more common to make that detour en-route between the two cities, when you're planning to visit both.

Thank you Edgar and Laura! This is very reassuring that this is the way to go. :)
