Upcoming trip to Norway fjords

Hello,
My adult son and I will be in Norway next month. We will be renting a car for tHe whole trip.
Itinerary so far
D1 &2 Bergen
D3&4 Geiranger
D5 &6 Alesund taking the golden route
D7 ?
D8 ?
D9 Bergen - day trip to Flam
Return home

Any recommendations for a stop between Alesund and Bergen? Maybe a central location to do a scenic routes or moderate hikes? seems silly to say that because Norway has scenery everywhere you look it seems.

Thanks in advance for suggestions

Between Bergen and Geiranger there is a night recommended either around Flam (e. g. Myrkdalen) or Dragsvik / Balestrand.
No need to stay 2 days in Geiranger, there is simply not so much to see / do.
Your driving days will be intensive due to curvy and sometimes narrow roads.
This article is worth reading for your questions.

A nice option from Alesund back to Bergen with car is using Hurtigruten (search for port-to-port). It is likely booked out already but worth a check. Bookable by phone or only at Norwegian website. Havila ships are no option; they load / deload cars only in Bergen and Kirkenes.

I did a similar driving tour last August. I started in Bergen, 2 nights, drove to Flam for 2 nights, drove to Geiranger but had a stop in between near Loen to take Skylift. One night in Geiranger and then drove over Trollstigen towards Alesund. I went up to Atlantic Road and stayed one night in that area before Alesund. Basically two days in Alesund then turned in car at airport and flew to south Norway. There were lots of places along all roads to stop and take in the wonderful scenery. As mentioned, pace of driving was slower due to windy roads. I stopped at some stave churches, a glacier, some waterfall’s, just because it was so beautiful, and wanted time at each stop to enjoy. On my way to Flam, I dipped down to Hardangerfjord and that could be an area to spend a couple days (wish I could have) - Trolltunga is in this area. You’ll want to give yourself lots of time to drive Trollstigen and stop at visitor center. And there is Dalsnibba viewpoint just outside Geiranger and Stegastein road outside of Flam (if looking for adventurous driving and amazing vistas). I spent two days in Alesund and really only needed one and would have given that extra day to the Hardangerfjord area. Have a great trip.
