Uber in smaller towns?

First off, is there a way to search here? I usually like to look to see if a common question has been answered but the only Search I see appears to hit all the forums.

The actual question: we'll be going to Norway this summer and it looks like we can take trains everywhere. Will we have Uber in the smaller towns? Specifically we were looking to break up the trip from Flåm to Oslo with a stop in Gol or Nes.

Five years ago we found Uber everywhere in Chile. But then last summer I couldn't get Bolt or Uber in Covilha, Portugal because apparently all the Uber drivers in smaller cities drive over to bigger cities where they can make more money.

Thanks.

At the top ot the site (if using a computer) there is a grey box where it says "Search".

No

I tried that Search up top but it gives apparently gives me results for Germany, France, Ireland, Italy, etc.

How about taxi service? It's really looking like we're close to not having to rent a car.

Thanks again,

Dennis

Oh! If I search on Uber Norway it does better.

It sounds like Uber ran into headwinds in Norway. There are not many posts about this coming up in that search. One recommended Bolt which I've also used in Europe. And of course taxis. I've had language issues trying to get a taxi before. Jeg snakker litt norsk men ikke mye... do I need to practice up on my taxi vocabulary?

Unrelated: on Facebook I used a Portugal travel group a lot but the Travel Norway group doesn't seem to want to let me post. They mostly want pictures if you're already there. Any recommendation as to how I do this kind of research?

Thanks again,

Dennis

You had trouble using English in Norway? It's estimated that 90% of the population speaks some English.

It depends on where you are and where you want to go, but you can usually find a local taxi company even in smaller towns. Here is one in Gol e.g.: https://www.goltaxi.no

Any recommendation as to how I do this kind of research?

This forum can be helpful.

No, we haven't been yet. Trying to figure out what I'll encounter off the beaten tourist track. Portugal had good English in touristy areas but outside of those areas it was good to be able to speak decent Portuguese. So far I'm understanding Norway teaches English pretty hard in schools and that I'll be pretty OK.

And I've got quite a few relatives there and their English is way better than my Norwegian.

Thanks again for the help.

The English spoken in Norway is stunningly good. If you stop a random person on the street to ask for directions, you're likely not to know whether you're speaking to an American/Canadian or a Norwegian, unless the person responds with "I'm sorry; I'm from New York" or something like that. English is taught in the schools from Grade 1 or Grade 2, I believe. You will have no difficulties...except paying for those taxis. Norway is very, very expensive. Even town-to-town buses are expensive.

I asked a young lady working in a shop in Oslo about her English. It was perfect. She said they start teaching a few words in kindergarten and take it all the way through high school.

Perhaps some older folks in a rural community aren't that proficient in English, but I doubt you'll have any problems.

I used the Facebook group, NORWAY - Tips for Travellers, for most of my questions.
