Hi—I’m one of Rick’s biggest fans but I was disappointed not to see any content in Tromso, the northern lights, or visiting Norway in winter in his guide book. I want advice from someone I can trust so I’m turning to Rick’s readers; how can I find a reputable northern lights tour in Tromso and other help planning my trip?

I took the Hurtigruten and saw the lights. Also took the funicular to the hill top and saw them in Tromso. Same on the quay at Svolvaer. Do you need a tour?

If the Northern lights are important, there are in my opinion better destinations than Tromsø. Are there any particular questions you have? A general advice for northern Scandinavia+Finland in the winter: Follow the weather forecast and don't take any risks. Also, have a bit of time buffer if needed, because you do not have the final say on your trip, mother nature has.
