The end of June, we are driving to Geiringer via Trollveggen down Trollsteigen. When i do a driving distance search, it says hour and 30 minutes including the ferry. Other sites say to allow 6-8 hours. Granted, you stop and take pictures and account for traffic, but this is quite a difference. We will be starting in Vagamo and I have booked the 5:00 ferry out of Geiringer to Hellesylt.
What is realistic to account for driving time? We will not be doing any hikes on this journey.
Thank you
Vågåmo, fun! We've stayed there!
Adding in the time to get from Vågåmo to the bottom of Trollstigen, six plus hours to get to Geiranger seems likely. Even though you aren't hiking, you will probably want to stop at the top of Trollstigen and do the walkways. Gudbrandsjuvet near Gronning is also a nice stop. You'll also want to stop at Ørnesvingen Viewpoint before Geiranger. It will add up to a pretty full day.
We never had very long waits for any ferries. Maybe that has just been good luck.
Keep in mind that you can only go as fast as the car or tour bus ahead of you on the Trollstigen. That can really slow you down, especially when 2 tour buses meet up in the turns.
Thank you! Yes, we plan to stop at those locations. I did part of this route over 18 years ago and really don't remember.
Yes, I realize the tour busses and motorhomes will slow things down - a lot.

The drive from Geiranger to Trollveggen is only about 50 miles and takes about 2 hours without stops during the summer. We did it with detours and photography stops in a few hours.
