What the most reliable way to get from Stavanger city center to Pulpit Rock by public transit? Do we need to book in advance for three people traveling in August?

Not "public" but we used gofjords.com for their Stavanger R/T to Pulpit Rock express bus. Easy peasy. Nice driver. And stress-free. Left right from downtown Stavanger in front of Radisson Blu hotel.
I did not see a public bus that made it close enough to the hike start to make it simple to do. The 120/121 go near the Pulpit Rock area, but not - seemingly - to the start area (or campgrounds or parking lots). Maybe a combo of the 100 from Stavanger to Jørpeland and then the 120 to Jøssang - but not sure what next.

I believe you can take a bus right from the Stavanger bus station. The last stop before Pulpit Rock was right outside the apartment we stayed at next to Jorpeland Pier.

So, @mnannie, you were able to take the public bus from Jorpeland up to the start of the Pulpit Rock hike? Do you remember which bus you took and where it dropped you?
