I will be flying into Alesund October 2nd with a 9:00 pm arrival. It will be dark. Rick Steves guide says that buses meet the flights and drop off at the same place as the Intercity buses. I am staying at the Thon Hotel Alesund, the walk looks straight forward for the daytime, but I wonder if it is wise for a senior women to walk along that route that time of night. If it is a buy tourist area (in Oct.) then I would normally feel comfortable walking alone. Taxi seems expensive but I will take one if necessary. Any other suggestions?

We were in Ålesund in May 2023. So darkness was not an issue at that time. I don't know how well lit the route is. There always seemed to be others out and about in the evenings
A taxi from the airport will probably be about 600nok.
It's about a 10 minute walk from the nearest airport bus stop, the Korsegata to your hotel. Perhaps you could get a Taxi or Uber from the bus stop to the Thon Hotel.
I would contact the Thon Hotel Ålesund for suggestions.

Alesund is a very, very safe city as is the rest of Norway. I would not worry at all about walking from the
bus stops to the Thon Hotel.
I would suggest taking the Airport bus into Alesund and get off at either the Radhus ( city hall) bus stop or the Rutebilstasjon ( main) bus station. Both of these bus stops are about a 500-meter or 10-minute walk to the Thon Hotel. Because everyone speaks English in Norway, simply tell the bus driver in English where you want to go.
Because of rain or fatigue, you might opt to take a taxi to your hotel for less than $20 from either bus stop.

I wouldn't worry about your safety, as Alesund is very safe. I traveled there with my daughter, but at times we were both on our own, and neither of us had any problems. We were out in the evening as well with no problems. And we also stayed at the Thon Hotel Alesund (very nice hotel, btw, and a wonderful location).
The only thing I might be concerned about is if you're tired and jet-lagged. If you're not jet-lagged and good with directions, I would just take the Flybussen, which is the bus mentioned above. I didn't think it was that long of a walk to get there from the Korsegata stop (maybe 7-8 minutes), but if you have cumbersome luggage and think you might have problems maneuvering in a strange place when it's darker outside, you might want to take a taxi. Or better yet, just call for an Uber, which will probably be cheaper than a taxi (see note below).
In fact, when you leave Alesund (if you are flying out), you will find that because Flybussen is geared to flight arrivals in Alesund, their pick-up schedule in town is a bit erratic. That's what happened when left Alesund for the airport. We would have either had to leave 2 hours earlier than we needed to, or run the risk of being late. We asked the desk clerk at the Thon Hotel Alesund, and she suggested calling for an Uber. She said it would probably be cheaper than a taxi because taxi prices are not regulated, and at least you know what the price will be with an Uber. Ours cost $62 (after conversion) to get us from the hotel to the airport. There is no need to tip.
