We will be there on a Sunday in July off a cruise ship, but prefer to do tours w/ private local companies. Any suggestions? Also, if those are not available, we have to choose between ship's excursions - Nusfjord and Viking Museum or Svolvaer, Henningsvaer, and Ice Bar or Best of Lofoten Islands - Flakstad Church, Sund, and Nusfjord or Trollfjord by Bus and Boat. Which would be best? Thank you so much for any help!
Would you consider cycling? I have friends who have been to the Lofoten Islands to cycle several times and saybit is fantastic ( as long as the weather is favorable).
There are bike tours, but you could also just rent bikes and go where you want.
I might but for the the vagaries of weather and only being there one day. Thanks so much for your post, though!
The best thing would be to rent a car. The Lofoten Islands are unbelievably beautiful and no matter where your cruise ship comes in the scenery is gorgeous in all directions. There really is just one main road (E 10) between Svolvaer all the way to Å (known for its fabulous cinnamon rolls) with side roads off to some amazing beaches, towns and trails. Haukland beach and Uttakliev Beach were beautiful! Www.68north.com has great ebooks with photos and hikes. We spent 3 days there based in Svolvaer in 2015 and loved it. Trollfjord was beautiful but if you are seeing other fjords on your trip then you might skip this one.
Thanks for the advice! We did find a private tour so we're now good to go!
