Touring Oslo during the Oslo Marathon

We'll be touring Oslo during the Oslo Marathon (9/16/17). Any suggestions on how best to tour Oslo that day?

Looks like a good day to visit Bygdøy museums and attractions. The challenge may be getting there. I suspect Bus 30 will have route alterations. You might be more successful walking to the ferry dock near the Aker Brugge. Best to check with the TI.

If you are in to hiking, take the T1 to Holmenkollen, visit the Ski Museum and view the city from the Jump tower then take a nice walk in the Nordmarka.

Thanks, for the quick and informative reply, Edgar. I will look into both suggestions.

I should have added that the T1 T-bane (Metro) Majorstuen Stop is a short walk to the Vigeland sculpture park. The T1 should not be impacted by the run other than spectators and participants will likely use the Metro. If you visit the Holmenkollen ski jump via the T1 you could work in the Frogner Park/Vigeland park on the way to or from Holmenkollen. While the marathon course appears to go around and through the park, I would expect that pedestrians could get into the park. Again, check with the TI to conform.

Wow---very cool! We'll actually be leaving Oslo that morning to head to Bergen for a few days but I didn't realize this was going on. Does anyone have experience with the "3 for all" race on Friday? It's only 3K...is this a kid's race or something that adults participate in? Being a runner...and in my trip planning, intentionally leaving Friday very fluid...I feel like this is travel serendipity and that I need to take advantage!

More great info! Thanks, Edgar.

To Mellisa M: Just an FYI about Bergen - Bergen is hosting the World Cycling Championships 9/17 to 9/24. You may want to factor that into your trip planning as well. Have a great time in Norway!

I was in Oslo during the marathon three years ago and it wasn't a big deal, though I was making my way around the city on foot so I didn't have to deal with closed roads, etc. It was actually really neat to see the marathon go by! Have a great time! It's a wonderful time of year to be in Norway.

Cheryl: Yes! We did know about the UCI Championships (and are very glad we booked our Bergen hotel back in May). We're actually staying very close to the finish line for the time trials and are looking forward to building "spectating" into our plans while we are there.

Enjoy your trip!!
