Hi,
We land in Oslo from the States and spend three nights getting adjusted and seeing sights. Then we take the Norway in a Nutshell train to Flam, and on to Balestrand. We fly out of Bergen to Inverness and the Isle of Skye.
With three nights for Balestrand and Bergen, my question is whether to spend two nights in Balestrand and then the ferry to Bergen and one night in Bergen OR one night in Balestrand and then two nights in Bergen.
Thoughts? Thanks.

Unless you have some particular plan for using your day at Balestrand I think that you will be happier in Bergen. Balestrand is a small village, you can walk around and see what there is to see in a couple of hours (or less). Bergen is a city and there is lots to see and do wandering around for a day.
We have taken that trip and got to Bergen about dark. We found the town's in the fjords to be very quiet. Our favorite part was riding the Foam Railroad down into the fjords.
We very much enjoyed Bergen. Thus people there are very sweet, very beautiful and so tall. But it is a place best seen in summer as it can get rainy the middle of Sept.
