Suggestions?

So, we have wanted to go to Norway for a few years, but every time I start to plan a trip I get overwhelmed not really understanding the best way to see the Fjords, which is really our main goal. We are not city people, and are not cruise people, but I have looked up cruises (big ships and Hurtigruten and Havila) vs driving which I think is our preferred way. I know about NIN, etc. I also really would prefer to not spend 10K for a week long trip which the cruises seem to cost.

I watched a You Tube video about a driving trip someone took from Bergen to Balestrand to Stryn to Geirangerfjord to Alesund. I was considering staying in these locations with day trips off each. Does that seem good? We would go next July, flying from Paris to Norway and then Norway to SFO or SMF. The flights are a bit frustrating as well (especially getting home) and I was hoping to go straight to the west coast rather than into Olso, but we could.

Each time I start to plan I give up and go somewhere else, but I hope I can find some suggestions so I don 't do that again!

We hope to spend two weeks or less.

Thank you for any thoughts you may have.

There are fjords all over Norway, but the "best" ones are in my opinion in the southwest, roughly between Bergen and Ålesund. If you have two weeks you can see quite a bit, or add a bit of Sweden or Denmark. Oslo is the largest airport so it will have the most/best options. But Bergen has flights to many European hubs, you can e.g. fly from Bergen to the US west coast with one stop in Copenhagen or Amsterdam.

A good trip for a week or to can be Oslo-Bergen-Ålesund-Trondheim-Oslo.

We visited Norway May/June 2023. We started in Kirkenes on the far northeastern coast for 2 nights and then traveled the western coast to Bergen with Hurtigruten. They offered a Black Friday special that brought our outside cabin down to just over $3000USD for the 2 of us. Hurtigruten is not at all like typical mainstream cruise ships. There is no casino, no shows. The passing scenery is your entertainment supplemented by a few excursions and port visits.

Afterwards we spent 2 nights in Bergen, an overnight in Flåm via a DIY Norway in a Nutshell and then 2 nights in Oslo. From Oslo we flew to beautiful Ålesund for 3 nights with 1 day cruising the Geirangerfjord and the next taking a full day excursion to Trollstigen.

Our trip was 2 ½ weeks including travel to and from Chicago.
