Stay in Tromso

Hello,

We will be visiting Tromso for Northern lights and other activities. Wanted to know a good place to stay. Ideally, would like to stay in a cabin or cottage with snow all around rather than a hotel, but there seems to be just one 'Tromso Camping' close to the main city (to take a few tours if at all) and seems slightly expensive, but I know Norway or Tromso will be on the expensive side.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks a lot.
Sheetal.

I just did a quick search in Tromso on VRBO checking the box that says "I don't have dates yet." There were quite a few places that popped up that looked like they would fit your description! Check it out here!

Thank you for the replies and suggestions. The ones on Airbnb aren't available on our dates. Some other on VRBO are available, but most of them are away from the city center, which is ok if the public transport to get around would be good.

I checked on the tromskortet.no site and there seem to be busses running connecting to the city center (mostly with a change, and we might need to go there atleast 2 days for start point of our tours). Is the frequency of the busses good? And how much does it cost per ride or is a pass more beneficial?

We did the Tromso trip in Feb and it was wonderful. Since we wanted to stay in a cabin, we stayed at 'Tromso Camping' and its an absolute gem. On the expensive side but worth every penny. The bus stop is a 10 min walk and a bus takes you to the city center every half an hour or so... if you plan to enjoy Tromso city (go to the lake or wander around) a day ticket is the best, else single ticket purchased in advance on their site/app work just as well!
