We have a tentative plan to take the ferry from Bergen to Stavanger immediately following our RS Scandinavian tour in July. Looking for suggestions about good hotels and car rental for a few days (3 possibly). Need a car to get to Vikedal. Thank you for any suggestions!

The inner landscape between Bergen and Stavanger via Odda is very scenic (routes Hardanger and Ryfylke).
Also Vikedal is on the way between these two cities.
A rental car may be expensive one-way but it is worth the trip.
I have no real good hotel recommendation. Still searching for a good place after 3 visits. The Stavanger Forum Hotel gives a nice outlook from the upper floors and from the restaurant.
Tip: Close to Vikedal is Skånevik. The Norsk Motormuseum is worth a visit to get impressions from earlier times in Norway. Contact them via Facebook to ask for opening hours.
Tip 2: The Langfossen waterfall is not listed in the scenic routes but really worth a stop.

The coast seen from the ferry is also very scenic, so not a bad option at all. But if you're going to Vikedal, Haugesund is a better base than Stavanger.
But don't forget to spend a bit of time in Stavanger, it is very much worth it.

Thank you very much! All these suggestions sound great and so helpful! I did consider Haugesund instead of Stavanger on my way eventually to Imsland to see homestead of family. Might keep that in mind. I am hoping also to locate a cousin in Stavanger.

In Haugesund do not forget to visit Marilyn Monroe.
The Scandic near her is somehow acceptable.
