Planning on driving from the Lustrafjord to Lom and then on to Geiranger. I am wondering how difficult the driving is. This will be summer of course...
In summer the Sognefjell is a safe and interesting route. Norwegian authorities clear the ways excellently. Be aware that animals might walk across the upway and exit streets to / from the fjell. Wind and fog can also occur on the fjell; and of course the temperature at that high altitude is lower than the temperature on fjord level.
I drove it three times without any problems. One time I was able to see from a distance the training of national cross-country and / or biathlon skiing teams.
Traffic issues are listed on this website.
Not too difficult but it is one of the highest roads in Norway so keep in might that the weather at the top might be completely different from the weather at sea level. The road is also not that wide so be careful. And don't overheat your brakes!
And as always, make sure you know the rules of the road and follow them.
Great! Thanks for the feedback.
