Roughly 1 day in Oslo...what are your must-see suggestions?

Hello! My mother (65yo) and I (41yo) will be arriving in Oslo after an NCL Baltics cruise on a Friday in early June. I booked us the Thon Hotel Cecil for our overnight stay prior to flying home the next day. What would you recommend for us to see in Oslo? We were hoping for more time on the ground there, but getting home to Boise didn't leave us with a lot of great flight options! My mom really enjoys doing hop on/hop off tours, so I was thinking that would at least provide us with a general look around Oslo? I appreciate any assistance you can provide! :)

(Note: NCL booked our flights and we can't edit our travel dates. I will visit again someday for a longer period of time!)

Unfortunately my favorite museum in Oslo is closed for renovations (Viking Ship museum). If it were me I would just do a big walk about after stashing your luggage, maybe take an evening dinner cruise (but you might be cruised-out by then). I'm not familiar with the hop on/hop off route in Oslo but if that's what your mom enjoys doing then do it. The airport is an easy 20 minute train ride from Central Station.

We spent 2 nights in Oslo June 2023.

We took the ferry to the museum island, Bygdøy and visited the Fram museum and the Kon Tiki museum, then visited the open-air Norwegian Folkemuseum. Unfortunately the Viking Ship Museum has been closed for several years for renovation. On our return we popped into the National Museum, which is close to the ferry terminal, to see Munch's The Scream and a few other pieces of artwork

We also visited Vigeland Park and the Akershus Fortress.

We used a 48 hour Oslo pass which included tram and ferry and, I think, all the attractions we visited.

Vigeland Park is one of my favorite places. It's amazing and unique. My second pick would be the City Hall and its murals. It's very close to your hotel. You can buy a 24 hour bus/metro pass on your phone. It's very easy to use. Then just get on and ride.

Take a HoHo bus tour which brings you around with comments where you are and what you see.

There are many must-sees. What are your interests?

Vigeland Park is one of my all-time favorite places. I'm sure it's on the HOHO route. Also, the modern art museum, which normally isn't my thing at all, but the building and location are gorgeous. Be sure to be out on deck as the ship is coming in to Oslo through the fjord. Incredible!
