We are staying in Oslo and thinking of visiting Roros. Is it feasible to visit Roros as a day trip? We will be traveling by train or bus.

If you look at the Vy trains website, it is possible. Whether you think the travel time is worth it is your decision. You travel on a Vy commuter train as far as Hamar, then switch to an SJ train.
Oslo depart 0634, Roros arrive 1138 and Roros depart 1623 Oslo arrive 2126 is your sole option unless you use the Trondheim sleeper in one direction, but that has a long wait between trains.

Thanks, very helpful. I didn’t realize how long the trip would be from Oslo via train. Maybe I’ll visit Roros on a separate trip to Norway. Perhaps when we visit the Trondheim area.

Even better than Vy is to look at www.sj.no since it's SJ that operates the trains to Røros.
