Reservations Required for Fjord Day Trips

Is it necessary to book in advance to take boat day trips of fjords (Naeroyfjord, Auslandsfjord and Sogenfjord)? Or is it possible to just show up and get on. This is for June, 2025.

Considering that just 2 fjords— the Naeroyfjord and the Geirangerfjord— will see more than half of all cruise ship passengers visiting fjords in Norway —- reserving your spot on a Naeroyfjord boat cruise in advance for June may mean the difference between getting on board a boat or not.

We really enjoyed the fjordsafari rubber boat out of Flåm. My daughter made all the arrangements for 8 of us in advance. No problems. Smooth as can be. Highly recommend both the excursion and the idea of making the arrangements in advance.

We were told if you are going to be there when large cruise ships are in port you need advance reservations. I think June would be a popular/busy time so definitely do some investigation & book the tour that you want.

I can highly recommend FjordSafari out of Flam. We took their morning RIB tour in September (we did prebook but didn’t need to as there were several open seats on our boat. No cruise ships in town and schools back open). They provide all the gear you need and there’s a secured locker space for anything (not huge suitcases) you don’t want to bring along. Seemed expensive when I signed up but I would do it again in a heartbeat - it was amazingly beautiful and fun!

If you watch Rick’s Scandinavia/Norway show there’s a scene of him zipping through the fjords on one of their boats.

We also took a (more sedate) cruise from Flam to Bergen on a NORLED boat. NORLED offers many different route options and their boats are very nice. We did this as part of our Sognefjord in a Nutshell tour which we booked with Fjord Tours
