Renting a car in Norway?

Can anyone give rec's on renting a car for about a week and half in August?
What rental company did you use? Who did you go through? AAA, Coscto? etc...
Thanks!

We went through Auto Europe and rented from Hertz. We went round-trip from Oslo Gardermoen Airport.

Same here. Auto Europe is so easy to use. I've been renting from them for years, and I've never had any problems. I also chose Hertz rental. I'm picking my car up in Oslo and returning it in Alesund.

mnannie was lucky in that she was able to rent a car and return it to the same place she picked it up. Unfortunately, I'm not able to do that, so I'm paying a very hefty surcharge, which is something to keep in mind when you rent it. If you can, drop it off at the same place. If not, count on paying a heavy fee.

And it doesn't matter who you rent it from. You'll pay the extra fee no matter what. So just something to keep in the back of your head.

And lastly, if by any chance you are picking up or dropping off in Alesund, when you enter that place name in Auto Europe, make sure you add an extra "a" so that the spelling is like this: Aalesund. I wasn't doing that, and it kept telling me there was no such place. It was driving me crazy until someone here told me to add the extra "a'". 😂

Thanks for the input. We are planning on picking up a car in Oslo, and leaving it in Stavanger when we fly out. Don't want to have to go all the way back.

We landed in Oslo; took the train to Voss. Picked up car in Voss; returned it to Voss. Picked up the car at the train station. You have to call Voss to make the arrangements. They speak perfect English. (Hertz if I recall correctly). We took the train to Bergen.
We returned to Oslo by plane and picked up a car at the airport, (Sixt). We drove to Lillehammer and Jotunheimen and back to Oslo.
Avoided drop-off charges.
Trip was in early autumn. Driving was straightforward. No problems. Little traffic. Don’t speed! Don’t drive intoxicated!!!! Petrol was expensive but rented a hybrid. Charging stations are common; but, that’s just not my thing.

I'm renting an electric car both in Iceland and in Norway, so I don't plan on having any gas costs. Hopefully that will make up for the drop-off fee. 😊

And an extra bonus is that electric cars are much cheaper to rent than cars using gas. Something else to keep in mind.

To those that rented ev's, did you find places to charge your car easily?
How does the cost of renting an EV, hybrid or regular gas car, compare?

EVs are very popular. The government has given incentives to purchase EVs. Thus, chargers are plentiful. I was planning on renting an EV; but, I developed range and charging time anxiety. I decided that I was on vacation and didn’t want to worry my precious time away. I rented a hybrid. Mileage was good and petrol was expensive (versus typical US prices). I suppose that I could have saved a few krone. In the end I didn’t even keep track of the cost.

I doubt that you will be able to rent a conventional internal combustion vehicle.
