We will need a car for 3 days from Oslo in late September and what company do you recommend. Also- is it like Iceland where you are "strongly encouraged" to get total insurance (which I am doubtful of in Norway, but asking anyway...).
I will be driving from Oslo up to Aurland (2 nights), and plan to drive the small circle around Sognefjord, then back to OSL to spend the night as we depart the next day.

We went through Auto Europe to rent a car from Hertz at the airport. We purchased insurance that covered all but an approximate $150 deductible.
Rented through www.AutoEurope.com in Norway and was really glad we did.
For the destination you want to drive to I recommend comprehensive insurance because some surprises can happen in that area.
As said I never rented a car at OSL but I was long years a Sixt premium customer. On my trips I did often see Avis and Hertz but do not know if people were happy with their choice.
For driving always check street traffic info (click on "open map").
I also recommend AutoEurope. They've always come through for me, and I have never had any problems with them.
We used Sixt to rent a car with a three day round trip return to Oslo airport. No problems.
Driving in Norway seemed very familiar. Good roads. Good signs. Little traffic. Of course, bad weather would be a complication.
Going to rent directly with Hertz as it is more convenient to get the car from the Oslo train station and drop off at OSL- no need to take the train from downtown to OSL either...
Has anyone picked up a car from Hertz at the train station? Sounds like it might be a kiosk.
