We will be in Bergen for 3 nights in July. I always like to put together a list of recommended restaurants to have on hand when we arrive. We will not have a car and will be doing a lot of walking. We are 6 adults. Our rental is listed as in the heart of Bergen, Sandviken neighborhood if that helps on location. But we are ok with taking public trans as well. We are open to all types of food both casual, take away and upscale. Appreciate any suggestions.
Here are a couple we especially enjoyed in Bergen in May 2022:
Colonialen https://www.colonialen.no/en very close to the main harbor area but just outside the crowds
Spisekroken https://www.spisekroken.no/en/home/ a lovely small place
In May of 2023 we enjoyed a dinner at Bryggeloftet, reservations recommended.
Lots of restaurant choices in Bergen. You can go completely casual at the fish market and food trucks - or - much fancier at some of the places mentioned above. Pretty busy, though. Definitely make a reservation. Avoid the “Ice Bar.”
Thank you all. I will check them all out.
The Pingvinen is mentioned in Rick’s book and by others on this forum. It has been a favorite of ours in past trips. They have built out a new space in their downstairs area for a new restaurant called Frk. Schmidt. Same menu as Pingvinen and very pleasant atmosphere. We ate there a couple of nights ago and would go again. Less crowded and quieter than Pingvinen, at least on the night we were there. Enter in alley behind and below Pingvinen.
We were in Bergen this past August (2024) and had a wonderful dinner at Bryggeloftet. For lunch, we ate at the fish market which while touristy, has a lot of options. We had the fish soup at one place and it was very good, FWIW.
