Planning a trip to Oslo and Bergen - June 2026

Hi fellow travelers - my husband and I are traveling to Norway in June and I'm looking for some travel tips & suggestions. We start in Oslo and drive to Bergen with our son/daughter-in-law and 10 month old granddaughter. We have some plans in place, but I'm interested to hear about things to do in Oslo & Bergen. I've started doing some research, but it's always nice to hear recommendations from fellow travelers who have been there. My husband and I are also doing a 6-day 'coastal express' cruise up the coast of Norway from Bergen to Kirkenes at the tail-end of our trip (with Havila Voyages) where we will see some of the beautiful Norwegian landscape have an opportunity to explore some small coastal villages. Thank you!

In Oslo you can take the Bygdøy ferry to the Museum island to visit the Kon Tiki and Fram Museums along with the outdoor Folklore Museum. Unfortunately, the Viking Museum is still closed for renovation.

In Bergen we enjoyed the tour at the Hanseatic Museum and Schøttsteune in the Bryggen. You can also take the funicular to the top of Mt. Fløyen. We also took a walking tour with I Love Bergen.

I recommend dinner reservations for any restaurant in Norway.

In 2023 we traveled along the western coast from Kirkenes to Bergen with Hurtigruten. Enjoy your trip!

A HoHo bus tour will bring you to these places in Oslo as well.
For the family a little hike around Holmenkollen is an enjoyable thing.
In Grünerløkka you can explore a nice neighborhood.

Bergen is somehow self-explaining The harbor area with Tyske Bryggen is worth a visit as well as Mount Floyen.

The coastal express tour is a good decision. Check possible excursions and book them well in advance - not seldomly a few are booked out.
