I booked the standard NIN tour from Bergen to Oslo with a layover in Flam about noon. No car just planning on walking around and having a nice dinner somewhere in town or at hotel. I'm torn between Heimly Hotel (in RS guidebook) and Fretheim Hotel. Both have very good reviews. Can someone offer any tips to help me choose? On Google maps it looks like Fretheim is more centrally located and closer to train station. Just one night. Leave the next day noon. Thanks!

I did this same thing when I did NiN. I stayed at the Fretheim hotel. It is a 1-2 minute walk to both the train and ferry.
The hotel was nice and I had a great view of the fjords from my room.
They also have an amazing dinner buffet that was worth the splurge.
I would definitely stay there again.
