Looking for recommendations for locations (as well as hotels) in Oslo...right now I am considering Thon Rosenkrantz, near the National Gallery, but wondering if you have recommendations of locations...closer to the harbor or National Theatre or ? We walk a lot, like to be in central location. We don't mind public transport, too!

There are a number of Thon hotels in Oslo. I like Thon Munch, but it is a little father east than Rosenkrantz (also farther away from the harbor). It is in a quiet neighborhood but still very easily connected to the area near the Royal Palace and National Gallery by foot. I have also stayed at the Smart Hotel in the same area of Oslo - but I cannot recommend it. The rooms are "postage stamp" size. Oslo is a wonderful walking city.

Several Thon properties are close to the Oslo S train station with the Astoria being very centrally located and in Thon's "budget" category: https://www.thonhotels.com/our-hotels/norway/oslo/thon-hotel-astoria/
The Astoria's breakfast buffet is good and substantial.

Hi Melinda, we stayed at the Thon Hotel Opera for 3 nights in February. We thought the location was excellent, steps from the train station and a short walking distance to the Opera (we took a tour of the building, highly recommend), Fortress, Peace Museum, Royal Palace, shopping and restaurants.

Ante'ing up with another Thon recommendation here. I stayed at the Thon Opera. Oslo S on one side and the opera house a block away on the other. As with the other locations, a good breakfast buffet. Clean, upscale, nice place.
