Has anyone taken the train from Oslo to Trondheim? Is it a scenic journey? I hear a lot about the NiN & Oslo to Bergen route, but not am not finding that much on the train trip north.
Yes, the Oslo-Bergen route is often listed as one of the most scenic rail trips in the world. But, basically any train trip in Norway, including Oslo-Trondheim, will give you amazing scenery.
Roros is a beautiful old town about 2/3 of the way to Trondheim that’s well worth stopping for a few hours or even overnight.
Röros is not on the main line from Oslo to Trondheim though, so that will make the trip a bit longer. But I agree that it is worth a stop.
I can’t answer about the train, but just wanted to chime in to say how much I enjoyed seeing Trondheim in August 2019 (3 nights). Used a visitor guide from either the city or tourist board. Excellent public bus system with a helpful app. PM me if you want details. Enjoy your visit.
Tip: there are some Youtube videos of this train ride, e. g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHXLbv41Nm8
Thanks everyone!
