Oslo to Bergen train route

I am starting a trip in Stockholm, and continuing on the Norway.

My question for this thread involves travel between Oslo and Bergen. I have read through multiple forums. We want to visit Oslo, Bergen, and Balestrand. I know Balestrand poses some issues since we won't have a car, but I have some options I am looking at. One of those options is missing the Myrdal to Voss part of a train ride. We will do all the NIN spread over a few days, but wondered if we are missing out by not doing this part of the scenic route. Unless you do a round trip NIN tour (vs Oslo-Bergen route) we miss out on this stretch, and I can't find a whole lot of info about this part. Any insight?

I am sure I will have more questions later! Thank you.

To be honest, yes. But you'll see other scenic parts instead. So I would urge you to not think so much about what you are missing and try to focus more on what you are seeing.

Yep, I decided not to look under that particular rock, because my head was already spinning.

Depending on how much time you have, you could perhaps do a Voss-Myrdal-Voss round trip before you begin the Voss-Bergen leg. There are over 12 trains per day in each direction. I believe it would be possible starting from Flam. If you were starting from Balestrand, I believe you'd have to spend the night somewhere along the way: Flam, Gudvangen or Voss. There are lots of lodging options in Voss, but it's so close to Bergen, it seems sort of a shame to have to stop there overnight.

Edited to add: It looks as if the Voss-Myrdal round trip would cost about US $40 but could be considerably less for someone 67 or older. (I priced a date in late June.)
