We (two couples)are flying into Oslo spending three days, then had planned to train to Flam then Bergen before departing a cruise. However, We had planned to take the train on October 4, and I am just now learning trains are out of service that day on that route. It seems our best option is to take the bus from Oslo to Bergen, which takes about 9 1/2 hours with multiple stops. BUT, there is at least some time between stops to get out of the bus for a few minutes. Hotel in Oslo is not refundable, but hotel in Bergen is. We could take the train the day before, but not with Flam stopover. Information from VY.NOR, but some other sites still list trains on the 4th. Any feedback/suggestions welcome/
Thank you!
Did you check connection on https://entur.no/ ?
There is definitely work on that day, seemingly at multiple worksites on the line.
Other third party sites are selling fictitious trains.
The buses listed currently are the normal express buses. The engineering notice says that rail replacement buses will be added about 3 months beforehand but they are unlikely to be much faster, and are unable to access Myrdal for the Flam line.
So I looked at routing to Bergen via Stavanger (then the scenic bus and ferry ride to Bergen), but that line is also closed.
So.....
The day before you could take the train to Flam, ferry to Gudvangen then the direct bus Gudvangen to Bergen (or catch the same bus from Flam) as that day the work is only between Voss and Bergen. Again additional rail replacement buses Voss to Bergen are yet to be added. But changing from bus to bus at Voss doesn't feel logical to me.
